Almost a year after the Turin Conference, the co-presidency of the Network has decided to hold the VIth Conference, organised by Euskadi.
Throughout this year a series of relevant Network events and activities have taken place. For example, in December 2007 we held our conference on non-genetically modified feed and, more recently, the expected French moratorium on growing genetically modified maize, as well as the German Parliament’s decision to authorise the labelling of products as GMO-free.
These actions are fully consistent with the principles that inspired the creation of our regional network – namely, to assure the absence of genetic contamination from crops and to guarantee regions’ freedom of choice.
It has been considered that the VIth Conference must deal with these two fundamental subjects in order to put forward future actions, in particular to encourage the agro-food industry to use the “GMO-free” labelling.
Also, as a network of regions that have chosen a model of agriculture based on quality, it is the appropriate time to reflect on the insertion of our regional policies in the framework of the new Common Agricultural Policy.
Conference attendance is free of charge. Conference participants must cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.
English French, German, Italian and Spanish will be the working languages of the Conference.
